| AGISTING:
We are a small, family run ranch. Our daily rate of $3.50 includes orchard grass, minerals, Mazuri pellets, electrolytes in warmer months, toenail trimming, worming every 6 months, CDT vaccine yearly, daily clean up of pens and pasture, creep feeding for crias and lots of individual attention. Pens have misters, fans and plenty of shade. Our animals love having their legs sprayed with the hose in hot weather! This is usually done several times a day in hot weather. All animals must be fully insured by their owners.
Dr. Linda Byer, DVM visits often and is available on an as needed basis. We are very lucky to have such a fine, Cornell trained vet with lots of Camelid experience, so close by. Veterinarian fees are at the owner’s expense.
All animals must have a current Rabies vaccine. If your animal has not had Rabies Dr. Byer will administer it at the owner’s expense.
Birthing service fee of $200.00 includes cria watch- every effort will be made to have someone on the ranch watching the Dam as her due date approaches. When labor is obvious someone will attend the dam and observe/assist as necessary. Once the cria is delivered this fee includes drying the cria, treating the navel, checking the palate, sucking reflex, teeth, ears, and overall appearance. A special bonding area will be available to all Moms and crias. Observation for passage of the placenta and gross exam of the placenta is included. Mom’s teats are washed with warm water and wax plugs removed if necessary. Close observation of the cria until regular nursing is established is included. Close observation for passage of meconium and enema if necessary is included. If the cria is born later in the day we will get up every 2 hours to encourage nursing through the first night. The barn has lights which are left on the first night to encourage frequent nursing. We recommend using the Mallon method on all crias to get them used to the human touch. This is done twice on male crias and 4-6 times on female crias during the first 24 hours. The cria is weighed every day for the first 7 days or until consistent weight gain is established, then once a week for the next two weeks, then once a week for a month.
There is no charge for boarding crias until they are 6 months old.
A Veterinarian check and IgG test is recommended at 24 hours of age [or as soon as the vet is available]. Charges to be paid by the owner.
Weaning will be done per the owners request. There is no charge for weaning.
Special needs fee of $15.00/hour for any situation requiring extra attention.
Shearing is done at the owner’s expense in early April each year. No animal will be boarded at St Nicholas Ranch without annual shearing
